Description from the seller

ON DISPLAY:
• Iconic 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Roadster
• Modified with Weber double carburetor fuel system to improve performance
• Equipped with electronic ignition and electric fuel pump
• Vehicle running and operable, with French plates and documents

HISTORY/PANORAMA:
The Mercedes-Benz 190 SL (W121), introduced in the mid-1950s alongside the famous 300 SL “Gullwing,” represents one of the most elegant and coveted touring spiders in automotive history. Conceived by Max Hoffman for the American market and designed by Karl Wilfert and Walter Häcker, it combined refined styling with grand touring comfort. This 1960 example was previously purchased on the Catawiki platform and has remained stationary for several years. The Book Service is not present and maintenance history is not available. The car is provided with a single key and documentation with French plates.

BODYWORK/PAINT:
The bodywork presents an overall preserved condition with various signs of age. There are some rusty spots, a small scuff in the area of the right front headlight with an imperfection on the chrome surround, a few cracks on the hood, and marks on several chrome trims. The convertible top is in generally good condition though showing some tears in the fabric. The internal part of the hood shows some marks attributable to previous interventions.

INTERIOR:
The cabin retains the normal condition for its era with wear commensurate with age. There are some stains to be cleaned on the carpet/mats, the radio is non-functional, and the internal radio control is missing. The car is without seat belts.

MECHANICS:
The car is running and operable but requires general maintenance due to the long period of inactivity. A general check-up was performed during which the Weber carburetors were serviced (installed in place of the original ones to ensure better performance) and the spark plugs, battery, and wiring between the battery, alternator, and starter were replaced. The ignition system has been modified with an electronic system and there is a non-original electric fuel pump. The braking system is functioning and the tires are in good condition.

DOCUMENTS:
The car comes with French license plates and circulation documents.

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
