Description from the seller
Exceptional natural Sri Lankan rough crystal, remarkable for its flamboyantly orange color, reddish hues, and superb glassy luster
Beautiful natural rough sapphire from Sri Lanka (Ceylon)
This piece immediately stands out for its extremely intense and luminous orange coloration, accompanied by deep red-orange and coppery nuances. Under direct lighting, the outermost, most translucent areas seem to literally glow, while the heart of the crystal reveals deeper, more contrasted tones.
The combination of strong chromatic saturation, material translucency, and its particularly complex natural morphology gives the specimen a remarkable presence.
A flamboyant orange color
Color is undeniably one of the main attractions of this crystal.
The stone exhibits a vibrant, highly saturated orange hue, shifting toward orange-red, red-orange, and coppery tones depending on its orientation.
Some peripheral parts become almost incandescent when light passes through the crystal. Conversely, the thicker areas concentrate more color and present a deeper appearance.
This natural distribution creates a very beautiful contrast and adds a lot of visual relief to the specimen.
Transparency and luminosity
The crystal shows transparent to translucent zones, especially visible at its ends and certain peripheral areas.
These zones allow light to enter the material and reveal part of its internal architecture. Different thicknesses of the crystal then modify the perception of color, creating a true gradient from bright orange to deeper reddish tones.
Under a point light, this interaction between light and matter becomes spectacular and gives the crystal a very interesting sense of depth.
A powerful vitreous shine
The natural surface of the specimen exhibits a markedly vitreous shine.
Many reliefs catch the light directly and generate small, very bright reflections, sometimes almost silver. These contrast strongly with the stone’s warm color and reinforce its crystalline character.
In macro photography or under magnification, the surface reveals a multitude of structures, irregularities, and natural textures that make each area of the crystal different.
A preserved raw morphology
This sapphire is presented in its natural raw state and is not faceted.
Its irregular morphology is a key part of its appeal. The stone retains traces and structures resulting from its geological history, offering a very different look from a corundum shaped by a lapidary.
One face notably possesses an extremely rich texture, while the more translucent edges provide greater depth and luminosity.
The result is a specimen whose appearance changes considerably when viewed from different angles.

Ceylon: a prestigious historical provenance
Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon, is among the world’s great gemological regions and is particularly famous for the diversity of its corundums.
This historical provenance is sought after by both gemstone enthusiasts and mineral collectors.
In this case, preserving the crystal in its rough form allows direct appreciation of the natural material: its color, textures, morphology, and variations in transparency remain fully visible.
A remarkable collectible piece
With its 0.48 carat, this specimen has a very nice volume for its compact dimensions.
It is a particularly interesting piece for a collection devoted to natural sapphires, Ceylon corundums, rough gemstones, or crystals with unusual colors.
Observation under a jeweler’s loupe or macro photography reveals even more of its character: the surface becomes a true crystalline landscape, blending reddish zones, shiny reliefs, and almost incandescent orange areas.
Thus, the stone offers two levels of reading: an immediately spectacular color to the naked eye, then a great richness of details when viewed under magnification.
A superb natural rough sapphire from Ceylon of 0.48 carat, distinguished by its intensely saturated orange color, its red-orange nuances, its vitreous luster, and the richness of its natural morphology — a piece of character for a collection of natural gems.
