This ancient and large mirror from the late 19th and early 20th century
Has a type of bevelled mirror glass worked by hand, used in architecture and interior and exterior design.
Ideal to confer superior elegance to the artifact.

On the carved wooden frame, a mixture of plaster (calcium carbonate), plant-based adhesives, honey, linseed oil and marble powder (paste process born in Italy at the end of the 15th century), was deposited, then Armenian bole (red clay pigment powder mixed with glue) was applied; once dried, the finest gold leaf was applied (gold leafing). Handmade in France between 1800 - 1830 and later in Europe.

"Short story":
When the French surged into Milan, at the end of the 18th century under Napoleon’s leadership, a shift in architectural styles was inevitable. The architecture had to reflect the political and cultural change, but above all had to be designed to celebrate Napoleon’s power.
The area most affected was that of the
Castello Sforzesco and the Arch of Peace.
The Arena Civica that we see today is part of these changes; in particular the Palazzina Appiani, which was built precisely at Napoleon’s will for his public appearances. From the top of the neoclassical palace, Napoleon could watch the games in the arena and, in particular, the naval battles that took place by flooding the field with water from the Navigli.

In good condition, it is a very special piece that evokes moments of elegance and happiness.
