MonteRosola – Il Vino Che Non C’era 2019
Toscana IGT Rosso – Tuscany, Italy
A fascinating and distinctive Tuscan red from Tenuta MonteRosola, a boutique estate located in the hills above Volterra, between the great wine territories of Chianti and Bolgheri.
The intriguing name “Il Vino Che Non C’era” – “The Wine That Wasn’t There” reflects the character of this cuvée: a wine created to bring together the full expression of MonteRosola’s red vineyards. The 2019 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah, making it a particularly interesting interpretation of contemporary Tuscan winemaking.
The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and rigorously sorted, first in the vineyard and then berry by berry at the sorting table. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in egg-shaped concrete tanks, followed by a minimum of 15 months of ageing, with further bottle ageing before release. This combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern cellar technology is characteristic of MonteRosola.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-red colour with garnet reflections. The nose offers ripe red and black fruit, with impressions of black cherry, plum, subtle woodland notes and sweet spices. On the palate it is full-bodied yet velvety, with well-integrated tannins, a refreshing acidity and a long, harmonious finish.
The estate’s elevated and windy position around Volterra contributes freshness and definition, while the diverse grape varieties bring complexity and depth. The result is a rich, elegant and gastronomic Tuscan red, combining Mediterranean fruit with the structure and refinement of international varieties
A compelling bottle for collectors and lovers of modern Tuscan wines, particularly those interested in distinctive Super-Tuscan-style blends from lesser-known estates.
