AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Beautiful and fully complete mechanical chronometric hand tachymeter (tachometer) from the renowned French manufacturer Zivy & Cie (Paris), imported from Switzerland (Importé de Suisse). Made in the mid-20th century (circa 1930-1950).

This precision instrument is in a beautiful, authentic condition and comes in the original wooden storage case with dovetail joints. The set is completely complete with all original accessories, including the rubber measuring wheel (marked with '10 cm') for measuring metres per minute, the metal measuring points with rubber tips, and the associated metal extension/connecting rod. Indispensable for collectors of antique scientific instruments.

* Manufacturer: Zivy & Cie, Paris (29, 31, Rue de Naples, Paris)

* Origin: Switzerland / France

* Measuring range: 0 - 1000 Revolutions/min (rpm) / 0 - 100 Metres/min

* Serial number: 111741 (engraved on the back)

* Case dimensions: 14 cm x 9.5 cm x 4.5 cm
* Total weight: approx. 350 grams

* Exterior condition (GOOD): Neat appearance with normal age- and use-related traces consistent with its age. The blue-red enamel factory emblem on the back of the device is fully intact and beautifully legible.

* Mechanical operation (IMPORTANT): Tested with a drill. The device itself largely functions as intended. When pressing the button the chronometric mechanism audibly activates (ticking) and the large main dial responds smoothly and correctly records the speed. The small clock inside (the sub-dial that is supposed to register total revolutions per 1000 revolutions) currently does not function and remains stationary in the test; this specific internal gear train is jammed.

* Note on the wooden case (outside): The measuring instrument itself is aesthetically and structurally fully intact. Only two small screws on the outside of the wooden storage box (by the hinges at the rear) are missing. See the detail photos for an accurate personal impression.
