Very beautiful semi-torsaded bronze coin bracelet from West Africa dating to the early 20th century, with provenance from a private collection and linked to the Bobo/Mossi or Gurunsi peoples.
Description from the seller
Authentic semi-twisted coin-bracelet (ornamental link). Its form evokes the styles of the ethnic groups of Burkina Faso.
A detailed description will be provided later, but for now I am presenting a description of all 24 listings of objects whose provenance remains exceptional—a scientific and primitivist art treasure.
Among my 24 listings, discover a unique historical ensemble, kept intact and preserved within my family for over 70 years, because an elder family member worked at the prestigious Bureau of Geological and Mining Research (BRGM) during the 1950s. These pieces are part of a spectacular field collection.
The collection is documented by its wooden transport crate bearing colonial BRGM Natitingou-Dahomey markings, the former name of present-day Benin, and it is also documented by an exceptional set of 26 geological maps with explanatory notes dating from surveys conducted between 1935 and 1961.
You will find among my 24 sales an exceptional King Manilla weighing over 3.8 kg.
Each lot (24 in total) is a fragment of this historic geological expedition.
This rare bronze coin bracelet features a superb nuanced patina, a semi-twisted body and a flat field. It is richly hand-engraved with intricate traditional geometric motifs.
These rich decorations belong to the Bobo/Mossi or Gurunsi ethnic groups.
It weighs 391 grams with a diameter of 100 mm, making it a striking piece with character.
Good vintage condition, in its original patina.
Authentic collectible piece.
