Playing card press, brass, gold-plated, hammered surface, circa 1900. A fine, very heavy playing card press designed to imitate a traditional book press. An amusing curiosity not often seen. The playing card press with a spindle and lever consists of brass, the base of Bakelite in the Neo-Classical style. The parts have a hammered surface. At the top of the spindle are two balls mounted. Inside the press are fortune-telling playing cards (35/36) from the Stralsund Playing Card Factory with a control stamp dating from around 1920. Condition - Good with a few small corrosion spots and wear, especially on the spindle (see photos).
