Original Geissler Elektro-Oszillator Typ A, circa 1928–1932, a German electro-medical device with a wooden cabinet and metal and glass components in an industrial design style.
Description from the seller
Original Geissler Elektro-Oszillator Type A No. 203 – medical electrical device with electrodes and case – ca. 1930
Description
Important and fascinating German medical electrical device “Original Geissler Elektro-Oszillator”, model Type A, number 203, powered by 125 Volts, dating roughly to the late 1920s / early 1930s.
The device was intended for high-frequency electrotherapy treatments and is still presented inside its large original transport case, complete with numerous applicators, electrodes and accessories.
The generator is housed in an elegant wooden cabinet with dovetail joints and a dark top panel, on which there is an analog milliampere gauge, a control lamp, a switch, a frequency regulator (Frequenzregulator), an intensity regulator (Stärkeregulator) and the triangular mark:
“Original Geissler – Elektro-Oszillator”
Original identification label:
Typ A
N° 203
125 Volt
Particularly interesting is the set of various interchangeable electrodes/applicators, some in glass and metal, stored in the dedicated compartments of the case. There is also the large wooden cylindrical applicator with original German indications, including “Tiefenwirkung” (deep action) and “Oberflächen” (surface), along with handles, adapters and vintage cords.
On the case is affixed the metal tag:
BRARDINELLI
TRITONE 66 ROMA
TEL. 6043
which documents the commercialization/distribution of the device in Italy.
The ensemble is particularly decorative and representative of the history of European electro-medicine in the early twentieth century, as well as being of interest to collectors of scientific instruments, historical medical devices and vintage technology.
Condition
The device presents in good general condition given its age, with normal signs of use and wear visible in the photographs. The wooden cabinet preserves a beautiful patina; labels, knobs, measuring instrument and numerous accessories are present.
The original case shows scratches, marks and wear consistent with age.
The glass elements visible in the photographs appear preserved, apart from any small age-related marks.
Electrical operation has not been tested. Given the device’s age, it is sold exclusively as a historical/collectible item. Before any potential ignition or operation, a check by a qualified technician is essential.
The sale includes only what is visible in the photographs. The photographs are an integral part of the description and buyers are asked to examine them carefully to evaluate condition, completeness and available accessories.
Era and provenance
Germany, circa 1928–1932.
Marketed in Italy by Brardinelli, Tritone 66, Rome.
A particularly interesting specimen due to the presence of the original case and the extensive set of accessories and electrodes.
