Dante Oscar Benini, a pupil in Venice at the studio of Carlo Scarpa, where he received his first lessons and concurrently carried out his studies, was hosted in 1978 in the studio of architect Frank Gehry, located in Santa Monica (California). He later moved to England and subsequently to Brazil, where in 1979 he earned his degree at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with Oscar Niemeyer. Here he also founded a design school which would later be extended to Italy in Milan. He then stayed in Austria at the University of Innsbruck and in 1990, in the United States, where he met Richard Meier who invited him to form a professional partnership in Italy for the construction of the Pont-Cittadella (Ponte Cittadella) in Alessandria. In 1997 he founded his own firm Dante O. Benini & Partners Architects. In 2000 he joined the order of architects of Rome and in the same year won the competition for the design of the world’s largest science biogenetics park, located in Shenzhen (China). Inspired by Bruno Zevi, who has often praised his works, he seeks to adapt his projects to the environment by creating and inventing new solutions without tying himself too strongly to predetermined schemes. Among his most significant works is the complex for the Turkish pharmaceutical group Abdi Ibrahim, which features, in addition to the production plants, the research and development building that extends largely underground. For Abdi Ibrahim the design of the executive tower in the heart of Istanbul was also undertaken, clearly identifiable on the horizon of the surrounding anonymous skyscrapers. In Italy, notably the Milan headquarters of Torno International, realized through renovation, whose main feature is an intelligent arrangement of mirrors and a steel sail that changes brightness at different times of the day and also with artificial lighting at night. Another important project was the Piazza del Terzo Millennio in Pisa. In 2013 he was chosen by Aleksej Dobašin (CEO of the Russian company Krost) for the Living Art in Moscow, considered the world’s largest habitable work of art.
