Mangbetu maternity

Called the «Generous» in African art, these pots are meant to collect palm wine. The jar is distinguished by its anthropomorphic shapes and a patina that leans toward browns.

These objects are adorned with necklaces and scarifications.

Mangbetu history rested indeed on the refinement of its court but also on cannibalistic customs.

The Mangbetu king "Munza" was thus nicknamed "the Cannibal King".
