Description from the seller

Mother of God of Kazan (Kazanskaya), one of the most venerated Marian icons in the Russian Orthodox tradition.

Mother of God of Kazan — Kazanskaya Bogomater.
Iconographic type: Hodegetria (the Virgin who shows the way to Christ).
The Virgin is represented in half-length, with her face slightly inclined toward the Child.
Christ Emmanuel appears to her right, upright and frontal, with his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing.
The composition is characteristic of Kazan, although in this piece it is highly transformed by the metallic covering.

It features a very abundant decoration of vegetal and floral motifs; scrolls and volutes; halos very elaborately worked; repoussé and gilded decoration.
