Santa Ágata of Catani(a)
Martyr and Patron: Ágata (from the Greek agathé, meaning 'kind') was a young virgin and martyr of the 3rd century in Sicily, who suffered persecution for her Christian faith under Emperor Decius.
Fortitude symbolism: Her story is an example of steadfast faith and resilience in the face of torture. She is the patron saint of Catania, and her intercession is invoked against volcanic eruptions (such as Mount Etna). She is also the patroness of nurses and of people who suffer from breast cancer, due to the tortures she endured.
