1960 Bottle in Lead-Ced Crystal, Material: pure lead crystal 24% PbO, produced with the traditional method of the classic blown glass model and hand-carved, incised and sandblasted strictly by hand with stone discs, without the use of any automatic machine or computer, typical of the ancient original and exclusive art of Bohemian lead crystal. It still expresses today the refined elegance and the style of a great historic era.

Bohemian crystal is a decorative glass produced since the 13th century in the Bohemia and Silesia regions, now part of the Czech Republic. The oldest archaeological digs of glass art sites date to around 1250 and are found in the Lusatian Mountains in northern Bohemia. The most important glassmaking sites, over the centuries, are Skalice (German: Langenau), Kamenický Šenov (German: Steinschönau) and Nový Bor (German: Haida). Both Nový Bor and Kamenický Šenov have Glass Museums with many objects dating from 1600. These manufactories were particularly renowned in glassmaking during the Baroque period 1685-1750. In the 17th century, Caspar Lehmann, gem cutter in the service of Emperor Rudolf II of Habsburg in Prague, adapted to glass the engraving technique of jewelry with copper and bronze.

Bohemia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and is now part of the Czech Republic, and was famous for producing colored glass objects. The history of Bohemian crystal began with the abundant natural resources present in the territory. The discovery was by some Bohemian glassmakers, who mixing potassium chloride and gypsum produced a colorless clear glass that was more stable than that produced in Italy. This glass could be worked on a potter’s wheel; moreover, the ash produced from the wood used for the melting furnaces was used to create potassium.
