Fétiche Nkisi Nkonde – Figure de pouvoir Kongo, an original wooden Kongo power figure from the Democratic Republic of the Congo dating to 2000–2010, with nails and metal elements, standing 58 cm high and 25 cm wide with a 17 cm depth.
Description from the seller
Impressive anthropomorphic figure inspired by the Kongo tradition, commonly called Nkisi Nkonde. Carved in wood, it is distinguished by its body covered with a multitude of nails, points, blades and metallic elements, which give it a particularly expressive presence.
In the Kongo tradition, minkisi are figures of power associated with spiritual, protective, or judicial functions. The metallic elements could materialize oaths, agreements, or the sought-for intervention of the power attached to the figure.
The face features large stylized traits, a prominent mouth and an imposing coiffure. On the abdomen appears a rectangular receptacle, a characteristic element of many figures of this type, traditionally intended to receive a ritual charge.
The surface bears an ancient patina with earthy tones, signs of wear, oxidation and various irregularities that reinforce the raw and spectacular character of the sculpture.
A decorative piece of strong presence, particularly suited to an African art collection or to a room that highlights ethnographic objects.
