Description from the seller

An exceptional copy of the coveted first edition, first impression of Eric Gill's "Twenty-Five Nudes," published in 1938 by J.M. Dent & Sons Ltd. for the renowned private press Hague & Gill Ltd. A masterpiece that fuses modern engraving and the typography design of the Arts and Crafts movement. The book includes the author's original introductory essay and the complete set of 25 plates of artistic nudes outlined in white lines on dark, contrasted backgrounds. Condition: Interior: In an extraordinary and very hard-to-find state. The text block, the front matter, the two-color artistic title page (in red and black), and the 25 engraving plates are completely clean, crisp, and firm, free of moisture stains (foxing) or dirt. Retains the original endpapers (with faint old pencil notations from a bookseller). Red cloth binding of the publisher is very solid with bright gilt lettering. Dust Jacket: Original and complete. It stands out exceptionally for NOT being trimmed (NOT price-clipped), preserving the era price "6s net" on the rear flap, a detail of extreme rarity that enhances the piece's value. It shows natural aging with time on the spine and white areas, light surface stains and chipping (with small cracks) along the edges and ends of the spine, normal for its 88 years of age but without structural paper losses affecting the main illustrations. A top-tier collector's item for art investors of the 20th century and demanding bibliophiles.
