Rare pair of two Louis XV style cherrywood occasional tables from France, circa 1760–1770, in good condition with minor signs of age, dimensions approximately 74 cm high, 95 cm wide and 53 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Rare set of two side/playing tables in surprisingly beautiful condition.
Three slender, outward-swept typical Louis XV legs, of which one extendable leg supports the unfolded part of the top.
The shape is remarkable to name, asymmetrical; when opened, the two together form a diamond.
The green thick felt shows signs of wear and a few holes, not disruptive. (See photos)
Very high quality, beautiful patina.
Hand-polished with a carnauba wax finish.
Both pieces are stamped with ‘JOUBERT’, making the maker and period very precisely identifiable. (Pierre Kjellberg, Le mobilier Français du XVIII siècle)
Gilles Joubert (1689-1775). From 1758 he was a common cabinetmaker to the Crown. In 1763 Gilles Joubert received the title of king’s carpenter, succeeding Jean-François Oeben.
Additionally, the ‘JME’ stamp is on both pieces.
Marque de jurande de Paris (J M E = juré menuisier ébéniste).
France, ca. 1760-1770
Dimensions:
H = 74 cm.
W = 95 cm.
D = 53 - 6 cm. (narrowest to widest)
