Specimen Cypraea cribraria, the Sieb-Kauri, GEM quality, about 30 mm, from Mactan Island, Philippines.
Description from the seller
A beautiful classic and an absolute eye-catcher for any Conchology collection.
The Cypraea cribraria (scientifically recognized as Cribrarula cribraria) owes its name “Sieve Cowrie” to the unmistakable, spectacular shell design. The intensely red-brown to camel-back dorsum is dotted with numerous sharply defined white ocular spots, giving the snail its characteristic, sieve-like pattern. At a size of about 30 mm, which is above average for this species, this piece enchants with a perfectly preserved, high-gloss enamel layer and an impeccably pure white ventral side.
Origin
This authentic collectible originates from the coral-rich waters around Mactan Island (Cebu, Philippines). The region is renowned among conchologists worldwide for its high marine biodiversity and the excellent quality and color saturation of the cowries found there.
