Description from the seller
Art Deco purple glass liquor service in amethyst with silvered decoration – 12 glasses and bottle – c. 1930–1950
Elegant and theatrical antique liqueur service composed of a bottle with original stopper and 12 coordinated glasses, for a total of 13 pieces.
The set is made of transparent glass in an intense amethyst/plum shade and embellished with a rich silvered metal decoration of the silver overlay type, developed through highly stylized floral and vegetal motifs.
Particularly interesting is the bottle, characterized by a bulbous body, tall neck, and a large stepped stopper. Numerous concentric silver bands emphasize the base, shoulder, neck, and stopper, giving the whole a pronounced geometric character.
On the body appears a large stylized flower accompanied by leaves and vegetal motifs.
The twelve glasses feature different coordinated compositions of leaves, small flowers and branches, completed by the delicate upper silver rim and by bands that highlight the foot.
The combination of amethyst glass, metallic decoration, and geometric shapes is characteristic of European Art Deco production developed between the 1930s and 1940s.
Stylistic comparisons can be found mainly in decorative glass productions of Central Europe and Czechoslovakia, where amethyst glass services with very similar silver decorations are documented already in the 1930s. Similar productions are also noted in Italy; in the absence of marks or labels it is therefore not possible to attribute the service with certainty to a specific manufacturer or country of production.
A particularly decorative complete service, interesting both as a collectible object and for furnishing a bar corner or an Art Deco interior.
