Description from the seller
Dardanus megistos is widely present throughout the Indo-Pacific. The carapace can reach a length of 10 centimeters; in exceptional cases the total length can reach up to 30 centimeters. The male is larger than the females. Dardanus megistos is an excellent carnivorous predator and its diet is basically composed of mollusks, echinoderms and worms. It lives in rugged and deep zones down to 100 meters, in various types of environments: in sandy bottoms among rocks or among large colonies of coral. It uses as its dwelling many types of shells but it prefers the Genus Turbo and Strombus. The base coloration of the carapace, the antennae and the claws is red, covered with numerous white spots outlined in black.
An incredible object from a wunderkammer, an object for true enthusiasts.
