Description from the seller

Description
Biondi Santi is one of the most renowned producers of Brunello wine. Biondi Santi has for more than 150 years been one of the leading wine producers from Tuscany and is seen as the "Founder of Brunello di Montalcino". Due to the microclimate and geological development of this area over the years, the hills around Montalcino are one of the oldest and most perfect regions in Italy for making fine quality wines. In the 16th century Montalcino was already famous for its wonderfully beautiful wines. The real fame for Montalcino, however, came only after Brunello was made. This happened for the first time in 1888. The first Brunello wines were produced by Ferruccio Biondi Santi. He carried forward the work of his grandfather Clemente Santi, one of the leading winemakers of that time. He developed a clone of the Sangiovese grape, called Sangiovese Grosso. This new grape was developed in the vineyard named "Greppo". In the cellars of Biondi Santi there are still Brunello wines dating from 1888. In September 1994 a large group of wine journalists were invited to taste the "old but so beautifully aged" wines from the estate's cellars. Even the 1891 Brunello (103 years old) was rated with 100 points, the highest score.

The 2015 Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is bottled in numbered bottles and produced only in exceptional years and is known for its long aging potential. 2015 was known among connoisseurs as an absolute top year and this is supported by the (very) high ratings.

Color: Intense ruby red.
Nose: Complex bouquet with notes of black currants, pomegranate and plums, intertwined with Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, rosemary and sage, against a background of forest floor.
Taste: Silky and complex, with aromas of raspberry and ripe plum, subtle hints of orange zest and milk chocolate. Elegant and lively, with well-integrated tannins and a fresh acidity; a dynamic, long finish with great potential.

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Biondi-Santi is a majestic wine that reflects the essence of the terroir and the tradition of Montalcino. With its complexity, elegance and potential to age for decades.
