Description from the seller
Two rare antique toy trains from the legendary German manufacturer Märklin, made around the turn of the century (ca. 1898 - 1904).
Both models are early clockwork locomotives (wind-up with a spring) made from hand-painted sheet metal with brass domes and the distinctive bright red spoked wheels.
-- Märklin "Storchenbein" (Stork leg) locomotive.
Due to the specific axle arrangement (the large driving wheels at the rear and the small wheels at the front under the engineer’s cab), these early models in Germany earned the iconic nickname "Storchenbein" (stork leg).
Manufacturer: Märklin
Model: Usually cataloged as Series 1020.
Production period: ca. 1898 – 1902.
-- Märklin Clockwork locomotive.
This model sits a bit further to the left in the background. It has a more traditional 0-4-0 (B-axle) wheel configuration with the red wheels placed directly under the boiler.
Manufacturer: Märklin
Model: cataloged as Series 1021.
Production period: ca. 1900 – 1906.
Length: about 16 cm and 14 cm
Together they weigh more than 1 kilogram
Originating from a noble castle.
