Walnut wood solid-wood chest of drawers dating to 1850–1900, Italian origin (Lombardy), dimensions 128 cm wide by 96 cm high by 53 cm deep, in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
Solid-structure chest with austere proportions, featuring three wide framed drawers decorated with symmetrical vegetal inlays. The front presents ring handles and shaped escutcheons; the upper frame protrudes prominently and the base rests on a shaped plinth. The photos show more clearly the quality of the inlay, the antique hardware, and the internal construction.
Useful dating elements:
• Back in broad irregular solid boards, with non-industrial workmanship.
• Solid-wood drawers and traditional construction.
• Antique hardware, locks and slotted screws; patina and wear compatible with age.
Good condition considering age, with normal signs of use and surface wear. Abrasions and small losses localized to the inlays and wooden parts are visible, as well as traces of old xylophagous activity on the back and in non-visible areas. The internal paper lining of the drawers appears to be later.
• The hardware retains a clearly legible historic patina.
The rear structure of the drawers, the joints, and the hardware make a dating period between the late 18th and the early 19th century even more convincing than a later 19th-century hypothesis. Attribution to northern Italy, and in particular to a Lombard area.
