Description from the seller
In Grief, Erwin Olaf's latest photo series, lonely figures brood in tearful silence. Loosely based on the style of the American aristocracy in the early 1960s, these images combine historical details with staged emotions.
After his previous series Rain and Hope, the 15 portraits that comprise Grief form a final chapter in Olaf's recent fascination with the visual representation of emotions as loss, loneliness, and quiet despair.
In these photographs Olaf plays with the idea of cold reality versus cruel artificiality, and he captures exactly that moment when innocence, hope, and joy are lost.
This is an edition of 1000, published by Reflex New Art Gallery
