Description from the seller
MAX LE VERRIER, ENIGMA LAMP - 41 cm - BRONZE-ART & GREEN MARBLE - 1925, Art Deco, France
Very beautiful and rare patinated metal lamp by Max Le Verrier around 1925.
This famous Art Deco table lamp, titled “Enigme” (Enigma), was created by the French sculptor and designer Max Le Verrier.
The composition features a nude female figure seated, holding a glowing globe, an emblematic symbol of the Art Deco style. The sculpture is made of patinated metal, resting on a green marble base, and completed by a crackled glass lampshade. It should be noted that the crackled glass ball corresponds to the format used and illustrated in the vintage workshop photo from Paris; the aim was not to obstruct the face with a too bulky lampshade (see historical photo).
The lamp is signed “M. Le Verrier” and appears in several reference works devoted to Art Deco, attesting to its historical importance.
Model illustrated in the books:
Art Deco, Eric Knowles
Max le Verrier, an Art Deco Spirit. Bénédicte Wattel & Damien Blanchet Le Verrier, Éditions Louvre Victoire
Please note that the electrical wiring has been replaced and updated according to current standards.
Shipment with special packaging for valuable and fragile objects. To secure the transport, it is planned to separate the base and the sculpture and package them separately to ensure delivery in optimal conditions.
