Mission/NXT launched its radical X-Space back at the beginning of the new millennium. This £500 sub and satellite system used the (then) brand spanking new NXT technology to give superb clarity, imaging, speed, midband detail and room driving ability.
The Mission X-Space is a unique subwoofer/satellite speaker system from late 1998/1999, designed by Mission in collaboration with NXT to utilize revolutionary flat-panel technology (Distributed Mode Loudspeaker / DML). System specifications: Type: Active subwoofer and satellite system featuring flat NXT panels. Power output: 30 watts per channel. Nominal impedance: 2.5 ohms to 4 ohms (depending on exciter configuration).
Launch price: Approximately £500 / €499. Satellite speakers (NXT panels): Design: Ultra-thin, flat panels (approx. 30x28x3 cm) that produce sound via small electromagnetic exciters causing the panel structure to vibrate. Reproduction: Covers the mid- and high-frequency ranges with wide, even dispersion throughout the room.
Subwoofer: Design: A conventional active subwoofer unit that also houses the amplifier for the entire system. Function: Handles the low frequencies (below the range of the slim satellites).
