Antique 19th‑century brass and copper milk can (canne à lait) of imposing XL size, 39 cm high and 35 cm wide, with a hand‑hammered surface, original copper/brass handle and lid, dating to ca. 1850–1900 from Normandy, France, in good, authentic antique condition.
Description from the seller
An exceptionally large and robust specimen of an antique French or Norman milk can (canne à lait), dating from the 19th century, is offered. This unique object is a beautiful example of historical craftsmanship and, due to its generous dimensions, forms an impressive focal point in any country-style, classical, or eclectic interior.
The can is proof of pure handcraft: the characteristic hammered texture (the so-called martyred appearance) covers the entire rounded body. The piece is equipped with the original, sturdy copper/brass handle and the accompanying lid, underscoring the authenticity and historical value of this collectible.
With a height of no less than 39 cm and a diameter of 35 cm, this can ranks among the rarer, larger sizes that used to be on the farm for transporting milk. Today it is perfectly suited as an exclusive umbrella stand, a decorative floor vase with dried flowers, or simply as a solitary art object.
