Description from the seller
The mythical electromechanical automaton from the golden age of Japanese toys, manufactured in the late 1960s by the prestigious firm Alps Co. Ltd. (Alps Shoji). It is the model "Big John - The Chimpee Chief" in its coveted Indian Chief drum-playing variant.
Technical details and condition:
Height: Approximately 30 cm.
Mechanical operation: Tested and operating perfectly! The internal electro-mechanical mechanism responds with total fluency.
Box condition: Retains its original illustrated box, though it is heavily worn and shows several historical repairs with tape along its seams and flaps.
Clothing and plush: Body covered in original plush/fur, well preserved. The orange felt clothing shows some small localized stains due to storage and the passage of decades, attesting to its genuine vintage patina.
