A large Shiva Lingam carved from agatized fossilized wood from Madagascar, with dimensions 344 mm high, 145 mm wide and 145 mm deep, and weighing 9.59 kg.
Description from the seller
This large Shiva Lingam was carved from an ancient block of agatized fossilized wood from Madagascar, a land that keeps in its rocks the memory of the great ecosystems of the Mesozoic. The fossil wood from this region dates back about 220 million years (Triassic Period), when dense tropical forests grew along the plains of Gondwana, the supercontinent that joined Africa, India, and Antarctica. Over geological ages, the organic material of the trees was replaced atom by atom by silica, quartz, and iron oxides, producing an extraordinary petrification: the vegetal tissues transformed into mineral, preserving veins and woody textures while taking on the intense colors of agate — from ferric red to brown, from honey to milky white. Each shade tells of a chemical step in the slow fossilization: iron for red, manganese for black, and traces of carbon for gray-smoky tones. The oval shape, emblematic of the Shiva Lingam, originates from the tradition of ancient India. In Hinduism, it represents the cosmic manifestation of the divine, the union of masculine energy (Shiva) and feminine energy (Shakti). The Lingam is not merely a religious symbol, but an universal archetype of creation and primordial energy, the point where the invisible takes form. Its elliptical structure alludes to the principle of the universe, to the vital flow that has no beginning or end. The pairing of this sacred form with fossil wood, ancient matter regenerated into stone, amplifies the spiritual meaning of the work: what once lived in the forest has become an eternal mineral, bearing witness to the cosmic cycle of birth, transformation, and rebirth. Polished to a silky, brilliant surface, this Shiva Lingam expresses balance and inner strength. It is an object that sits at the crossroads of art, geology, and spirituality, ideal for collections of rare stones, meditation spaces, or environments devoted to contemplation.
