Frescobaldi Lamaione, 2022, in 0.75 L bottles, 6 bottles.
Description from the seller
Lamaione is one of Frescobaldi's most prestigious labels, produced at the historic CastelGiocondo Estate in Montalcino. A great Tuscan red obtained from 100% Merlot, born from the Frescobaldi family's desire to experiment with this international grape on the estate's particular clay soils.
The first Merlot vines were planted in the seventies and, after years of experimentation, in 1991 the first vintage of Lamaione was born. The vineyard is located at about 300 meters above sea level, with a southwest exposure and soils characterized by marine clays.
The grapes are selected and hand-harvested in boxes. Once they arrive at the winery, after destemming, the berries undergo a further manual selection. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperature. In the more recent vintages, the ageing involves 21 months in French oak barriques, 80% new, followed by a further period of bottle aging.
In the glass Lamaione expresses an intense, powerful and elegant character. The aromatic profile presents forest fruits and cherry, accompanied by refined toasted notes of coffee and cocoa, with balsamic and licorice nuances. On the palate it is wide and structured, with a dense yet soft and velvety tannic texture and a particularly long and persistent finish.
