Lytoceras fossil ammonite on a wooden base, a polished natural history piece from Madagascar, with dimensions 185 mm high, 144 mm wide and 57 mm deep and weighing 1222 g.
Description from the seller
This ammonite belongs to the genus Lytoceras, one of the oldest and most elegant lineages of the great Mesozoic cephalopods. Its form tells of a refined evolution: a broad and harmonious spiral, a characteristic feature of the Lytoceratidae, where the coiling follows a fluid and continuous growth, free of the pronounced ribbing that accompanies other contemporaneous groups. The specimen has been polished, revealing a surface rich in details: mineral inclusions, dendritic branching, and traces of crystallization that followed the voids of the shell during fossilization. The result is a complex natural pattern, almost vegetal, offering a play of warm colors — ochre, brown, honey — typical of the secondary mineralization of the sedimentary layers in which it was found. The ammonite is mounted on a solid wood base, turned and finished to enhance the piece without overpowering its presence. The whole creates an object that unites natural history and decoration, with a perfect balance between scientific and ornamental.
