Merovingian iron halberd‑type axe from the 5th–8th century, found in Loire near Orléans in 1886, 22.6 cm long and 19.2 cm wide, in very good condition with oxidation, provenance France (Galerie de L.V.L.), authentic original artifact with export licence arrangements.
Description from the seller
Very rare Merovingian forged iron axe in the shape of a halberd. Large symmetrical forged iron axe, curved axe iron. Symmetrical blade, slightly curved, connected to a solid neck at the end of which sits the rectangular tang hole with lateral reinforcements.
Merovingian period, 5th / 8th century.
Contains an old label mentioning: "Axe found in the Loire in 1886 about 50 m from the new bridge".
A similar axe was discovered in the Merovingian necropolis of Erstein.
Length 22.6 cm. Width 19.2 cm. - Very good condition - oxidations
