Description from the seller

The Hergé Universe – Complete collection in 7 volumes – Rombaldi / Casterman – 1986-1989

Description

Magnificent complete 7-volume collection of The Hergé Universe, published by Rombaldi in collaboration with Casterman, devoted to the work and graphic universe of Hergé (Georges Remi).

This set constitutes important documentation on Hergé’s career and the genesis of his work. The seven volumes bring together abundant iconography, illustrations, archival documents, covers, sketches, projects, advertising work, documents related to Le Petit Vingtième and the Journal of Tintin, as well as various elements dedicated to the Tintin universe and its reception.

The collection was published progressively between 1986 and 1989 and forms a particularly homogeneous whole, with its elegant publisher’s brown leatherette-like bindings, decorated with gilded rules and titles.

The 7 included volumes

Volume I – The Beginnings of an Illustrator
Dedicated to the early days of Hergé and his first activities as an illustrator, including his early drawings, covers, illustrations and various works produced at the beginning of his career.
Legal deposit: January 1987.

Volume II – Le Petit Vingtième (1928-1934)
Documents and illustrations devoted to the Le Petit Vingtième period, the early years of Tintin and Hergé’s graphic activity during this period.
Legal deposit: April 1987.

Volume III – Le Petit Vingtième (1935-1940)
Continuation devoted to Le Petit Vingtième, with covers, illustrations and documents from the 1935-1940 period.
Legal deposit: June 1987.

Volume IV – Hergé and the Journal of Tintin (1946-1983)
Dedicated to the period of the Journal of Tintin and to the post-war evolution of Hergé’s work. The volume notably includes the publication of the original version of The Temple of the Sun as well as various covers and illustrations.
Legal deposit: November 1987.

Volume V – Illustrations: books, advertisements, postcards, calendars, Voir et Savoir, etc.
A particularly interesting volume for discovering a less-known part of Hergé’s work: illustrations, advertising work, printed documents and various graphic realizations outside Tintin albums.
Legal deposit: March 1988.

Volume VI – Projects, sketches, unfinished stories
Presents numerous projects, graphic explorations, sketches and unfinished works, offering insight into Hergé’s creative process and the evolution of certain graphic and narrative ideas.

Volume VII – The myth: cinema, correspondence, objects, critiques and tributes
