Ensign No. 12 Carbine Bronze Edition, tested and working.
Description from the seller
Here is a classic, prestigious and fascinating vintage medium format bellows camera: the Ensign No. 12 Carbine (in the rare "Tropical" variant with an entirely bronze finish), produced in Britain by Houghton-Butcher Mfg. Co. Ltd. in London in the early 1920s.
The lot is presented in good overall condition, with normal signs of use and preservation consistent with the age and prewar history of the item, and is complete with its original optical block mounted on an extendable rail.
Optics: The camera mounts the extraordinary and renowned original Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 1:4.5 f=12cm. The lenses show no deep scratches or traces of dampness and internal fungus/fungi; only a normal, widespread and light vintage patina is evident, due to the decades that have passed, entirely natural for a piece of this age, which does not compromise its historical significance and collector’s appeal.
Mechanical: The lot appears mechanically functional. The central mechanical shutter responds to manual commands, snapping at the various speeds set on the top dial. The front plate unlatches correctly and the system allows the extension of the bellows along the rails.
Aesthetics: Good general condition, as documented by the photographs. The solid and robust metal body, entirely made in bright bronze alloy, preserves an exceptional visual impact, displaying a magnificent superficial historical patina.
Tracked international shipping, fully insured and with professional super-protective packaging to ensure maximum safety during transport.
