Description from the seller

Fetish Twin Ewe, Togo
H. 26 cm.

Wood, wear patina.
Statuettes for the cult of twins.

Among the Ewe, these representations are called Venavi, and Hohovi among the Fon.

The EWE live in a coastal zone extending from Ghana, Togo, and Benin to the borders of Nigeria.
They practice a twin cult very similar to that of the Yoruba, and it is within this framework that these statuettes are produced; the styles are very varied and are sometimes influenced by proximity (Akan on the Ghanaian side, Yoruba on the Nigerian side).
