Pair of Vienna bent beechwood chairs by Josef Hofmann (Wien–Bielitz), ca. 1900–1910, in reasonable used condition with minor parts possibly missing, solid construction, authentic Hofmann factory label, bent beech with intact Viennese weaving, H100 W48 D48 cm, early Wiener Secession/Art Nouveau design.
Description from the seller
A handsome pair of Vienna beechwood chairs, manufactured by Josef Hofmann, Vienna–Bielitz ca. 1900–1910. Hofmann belonged to the group of important producers of bentwood furniture within the Viennese tradition, of which Thonet is of course the best-known name.
The atmospheric chairs are executed in bent beechwood with wholly intact Viennese wickerwork and characteristic turned back splats. Both chairs show signs of use, without major visible damage or defects. Except for the bottom part of a front left leg, where the wood is slightly thinner. The construction of both chairs is solid, with little to no play when seated.
Both pieces bear an authentic Josef Hofmann factory label and are a historically valuable example of early Viennese coffeehouse furniture from the Jugendstil and Wiener Secession periods.
The chairs will be carefully packaged and insured for shipment, including Track & Trace code.
Thank you in advance and good luck with your bidding!
