Vintage Japanese bilingual traffic sign with 'まわり道' (mawari-michi — DETOUR) and 'DETOUR' in English, made of metal, 30.5 cm high by 45.5 cm wide, dating from 1945–1960, original/official, in good vintage condition with minor signs of age and staining.
Description from the seller
A rare and historically interesting Japanese bilingual traffic sign with the text "まわり道" (mawari-michi — detour) in Japanese and "DETOUR" in English, complemented by a red arrow pointing to the right.
The combination of Japanese and English on an official traffic sign refers to the period of the American occupation of Japan (1945–1952), when bilingual signs were introduced for the American military personnel. This makes the sign not only decorative but also historically particularly valuable.
The sign has a sleek and graphic design in navy blue and white with a red arrow — very decorative and immediately recognizable.
Condition: good vintage condition with light signs of wear appropriate to its age. Beautiful glossy colors.
