Antique Victorian Leather Hat Trunk (Hat Bucket) – English Style – 1850-1900 – Very good
A beautiful, authentic Victorian leather hat trunk, also known as a "Hat Bucket" or "Top Hat Case." This type of trunk was used in the 19th century by wealthy gentlemen to safely transport their precious tall hats during travel by train or coach.
Origin and Period:
The trunk originates from Europe, in a typically English style, and dates from roughly 1850-1900. The model, the oval shape, and the sturdy construction are characteristic of English leather goods from the Victorian era.
Condition of the item:
The trunk is in very good condition, considering its respectable age of about 125 to 175 years. The leather is supple and shows a beautiful, even patina that reflects its history and use. The edges, straps, and buckles are intact and solid. The wooden core on the inside is in excellent condition and provides the necessary rigidity. The dark fabric lining inside is neat and complete. In short: an exceptionally well-preserved example.
