Description from the seller
Part tea service of 12 pieces - Copeland Spode - Model "Peplow" (Pattern 9282) - Circa 1912
Superb high-end English fine earthenware set (opaque porcelain) from the prestigious Copeland Spode manufactory, made in Stoke-on-Trent, England.
The model “Peplow” features a magnificent Edwardian Chinoiserie-style decoration, depicting a central floral basket, garlands and colorful exotic birds (peacocks/peafowl). This iconic motif was introduced in 1910 and distributed exclusively at the grand London department store Harrods until 1939.
The color gilding and fine gold borders are applied by hand. Each piece carries under its base the official green ELL crown-mark as well as the official pattern number 9282 painted by hand in red, attesting to early high-quality manufacture (circa 1912-1925).
Exact composition of the lot (12 pieces in total):
1 large teapot / height 13 cm
1 teapot lid
1 covered sugar bowl / height 12 cm
1 sugar bowl lid
1 milk jug / creamer / height 10.5 cm
2 tea cups / height 5 cm
7 saucers / diameter 15 cm
Very good overall aesthetic condition and collectible for century-old pieces. The colors are fresh and vivid. The fine gold gilding is well preserved (slight normal patina of use on the borders).
Presence of a craquelure (fine natural glaze cracks) visible under certain bases, which is perfectly normal and confirms the antiquity of the earthenware.
Note: the teapot (or the creamer/sugar bowl depending on the piece) shows a structural crack at its base, with a trace of an old repair near the handle (see close-up photos).
