Description from the seller
Antique mechanical bell-strike clock – late 19th / early 20th century – for display
Fascinating period mechanical clock with a large bell strike, housed in an elegant four-column turned wooden architectural frame.
Dating roughly from the end of the 19th century to the early decades of the 20th century, it represents a fine example of domestic clockmaking of the period: when the clock was not merely a timekeeping device but a true piece of decor, destined to occupy a prominent place in the home.
Particularly evocative is the large dial with arabic numerals, the auxiliary dials, the original hands, and the large metal bell underneath. On the back of the movement there is still the characteristic adjustment “SLOW – FAST”.
The wood preserves a beautiful warm tone and shows marks, small abrasions and patina compatible with its age, elements that contribute to the object's charm. The bell also retains its own patina and historical oxidation.
IMPORTANT: the clock is sold NON-FUNCTIONING AND TO BE SERVICED. The functioning of the movement, the striking mechanism, or other functions is not guaranteed. It is therefore offered in its current state, primarily as an antique display piece for collection and furnishing, or as an interesting restoration project for clock enthusiasts.
A striking decorative object capable of evoking the atmosphere of European homes between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Not restored or modernized, it preserves, in the signs of time, a significant part of its history.
Attributed era: approx. 1890–1920, to be confirmed
Aesthetic conditions: very good for its age, with patina and normal signs of time
Functioning: not working, to be serviced
Sale: as an exhibit/display / collection piece, in the state shown in the photographs
