Description from the seller

Complete antique double-bed sheet set with 2 pillowcases in cotton, featuring filet lace and double drawn-thread work — Italy, circa 1930 — Pristine condition

Refined antique double-bed linen set (circa the 1930s), a superb example of Italian textile craftsmanship from a notable private Sicilian dowry: the set is made of pure vintage cotton fabric, heavy and finely loom-plied, characterized by great sturdiness and an intact natural white shade.

Details and Craftsmanship:
• Filet lace inserts: There are seven geometric inserts along the upper edge of the sheet and descending down the sides. The lace is entirely handmade and depicts an elegant, classic rose-branch motif.
• Double decorative drawn-thread work: A very fine drawn-thread work frames and surrounds the lace inserts geometrically, while a second drawn-thread runs along the entire perimeter, creating a splendid frame for the sheet.
• Edge finishing: The sheet is completed with a substantial edge finish, stitched high at about 5 cm.
• Coordinated pillowcases: 2 pillowcases (85 x 55 cm) faithfully reproduce the same motif and drawn-thread work as the sheet, enriched with 3 filet lace inserts each. The drawn-thread work is present on 3 sides.

Dimensions: Top sheet: 265 x 268 cm (Maxi size, ideal for modern double beds) Pillowcases: 85 x 55 cm

Conditions of preservation truly good for fabrics of this era. The fabric is sound, free of stains, moisture halos, tears or repairs. One minor conservational detail: on the pillowcases old buttons have been removed (as was customary then to facilitate ironing and washing), but the original buttonholes are perfectly intact and clean. A timeless piece, rare to find in this state.
