Description from the seller

Italy 1960 - Size: 260 x 250
Extraordinary carved velvet Rayon blanket crafted with floral motifs and finished on three sides with cotton Pon Pon fringe.
The bedspread is vintage, hence new and never used, dating back to the second half of the 20th century with no obvious signs.
A high-value artifact with substantial weight, about 4 kg.
Cap of great rarity
Genuine masterpieces that attest to the meticulousness in the preparation procedures of the designs and Jacquard loom printing and the evolution of fashion. Fabrics never banal, rich in different meanings, possess a patina that only the authentic passage of time can give.

Dimensions: 260 x 250 centimeters with fringe on 3 sides.

The item is vintage, so it is standard practice to clean and remove stains to eliminate any odors or marks; it is understood that washing the item is the purchaser’s responsibility.
The item may show signs of oxidation and dust, repairs, or era-related tears.

Weaving
Velvet is a fabric that on the face side presents either a dense pile (united or cut velvet) or a series of tiny loops of thread (crushed velvet). The name derives from the Latin vellus, meaning fleece, indicating the characteristic of a fur-like covering, of varying length and type.
Its origin is Western and it is estimated to have occurred around the 13th century. In Italy, it became widely used among the wealthy around the 14th century and was primarily produced in Lucca, Genoa, Florence, Venice, and Catanzaro.

It is produced on a loom with very fine threads using two warp threads, one for the base (coarse warp) and one for the pile (pile warp), and a single weft. The loom for velvet must be equipped with two combers, one for the coarse warp and one for the pile warp, which must have a length much greater than the other, as the pile fibers have to travel a longer path around the pegs. It can be made from natural fibers or acrylics. The most valued is velvet obtained from silk, although today it is rarely produced.

Seller's Story

Designers and textile-loving artisans present their creations: artworks, jewelry, furnishings, vintage clothing, experiments and other forms of textile expression. They also briefly share something about themselves and their work. A harmonious overview that brings color to a timeless moment.
