Icon - Christ Pantocrator - Wood

Russian Orthodox icon of Christ Pantocrator, late 19th century, painted on a wooden panel. Christ is depicted half-length with a cruciform halo, raising his right hand in blessing and holding an open Gospel in his left. His richly ornamented robes are decorated with elaborate foliate motifs, echoed by scrolling foliage surrounding the gilt background.

The icon retains a warm, darkened devotional surface with visible craquelure, age-related losses, splits, rubbing and wear to the painted and gilt decoration, lending the work a strong period character. The reverse is unpainted and displays the natural aged surface of the wooden panel.
Dimensions: 27 x 22 cm.
