Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
French Art Deco mantel clock in black and rose/white veined marble with patinated zamak eagle sculptures, model 59/5, mechanical movement with an 8-day power reserve, no strike, 51 cm wide, 25.5 cm high, 8 cm deep, weighing 5 kg, with winding key, originating from Nord-Pas-de-Calais/Béthune, dating to the 1930s and in good condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Beautiful French Art Deco mantel clock with stylized eagles - Excellent, working condition. The movement runs smoothly and ticks steadily. (Tested). with original winding key.
Limited and uniquely numbered mechanical masterpiece from the heyday of the Art Deco period (c. 1930). This imposing clock is crafted from a stunning two-tone marble combination: a base of deep black marble with an elegantly shaped upper section of finely pink/white veined marble.
The clock is flanked by two powerful, dynamically shaped sculptural eagles perched on a rock outcrop, made of patinated zamak (bronze-colored alloy), characteristic of the geometric and flowing style of the Bauhaus and Art Deco movements.
Key features & Condition:
*Movement: High-quality mechanical movement with a uniquely engraved serial number 59/5 on the back plate. The movement is in excellent condition, ticking steadily and keeping perfect time.
*Glass & Dial: The enamelled white dial with clean gold-colored Roman numerals is in pristine condition. The convex protective glass with brass rim opens smoothly and is completely free of scratches and damage.
*Marble & Sculptures condition: The pink marble is firmly attached to its base (minimal, natural play when lifted strongly, but structurally solid). At the rear along the marble edge there is a very small, unobtrusive chip/loose particle that is absolutely not visible from the front.
*Patina: On the inside of the brass glass cap is the authentic, characteristic green oxidation (verdigris) and light white speckling visible. This confirms the age and historical integrity of the piece; we have deliberately chosen not to polish it to preserve the antique character.
An absolute standout of heavy, museum-quality.
