AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Vintage Murano "Clam Shell" large art glass bowl – Bucella Cristalli – cobalt blue – Italy, circa 1960s/1970s (with original labels)

A beautiful and impressive vintage Murano art glass bowl in the shape of a seashell (clam shell). This sculptural, heavy bowl was handmade in the mid-1960s/1970s on the famous Murano glass island near Venice, Italy.

What makes this particular lot exceptionally unique for collectors is that the bowl still bears its two original paper labels on the inside: the silver-blue export label with the text: "Murano Glass - Made in Italy". The gold-red oval label with the rooster and fox of Bucella Cristalli, a highly respected Murano cold-working atelier (moleria) and luxury retailer from that period, known for polishing and distributing hand-blown glass of the highest quality.

Design & Craftsmanship
Design: Very organic and robust form with deep ridges on the exterior and an elegant undulating, thick rim.
Color: A stunning gradient from deep, intense cobalt blue (almost electric blue) at the edges, flowing into clear glass at the core. The bowl reflects and refracts light beautifully.
Technique: Fully hand-formed (fatto a mano) according to the traditional Murano glass-blowing technique. The underside features a perfectly flat-ground and polished resting surface.

Condition: in excellent vintage condition. The glass is clear, with a beautiful sheen and shows no chips, cracks, or repairs. The two paper labels are authentic and well-preserved. Along the lower edge, hidden from view, there are a few tiny chips noticeable on one side edge. This does not in any way detract from its decorative value (see photos).

A beautiful Mid-Century Modern showpiece that immediately adds atmosphere to a design interior or a collection of Italian art glass.
