Rare and exceptional autograph letter from the Risorgimento era, dated 10 October 1860, rich in historical and iconographic references linked to the Thousand Expedition of Giuseppe Garibaldi and Italian unification.
Content and Historical Significance: The letter, addressed by an IRP patriot (the uncle "Emanuele") to his nephew Luigi Filippo Buonopane in Grottaminarda, constitutes a direct and real-time testimony of the events of autumn 1860 in the Mezzogiorno:
Garibaldi quotation: The "march of the dictator's troops" is mentioned.
Symbolism of the Risorgimento: The sender requests the sending of a "rosette with the shield of Savoy, the ones carried by the Garibaldini" in order to use it as a model to manufacture rosettes destined to adorn the local National Guard.
Military Chronicle: An update on the "news from Ariano" is requested, referring to the famous and bloody reactionary disturbances in Ariano Irpino that occurred between September and October 1860.
