Description from the seller
True piece of character tied to the famous star chef, a high name in French gastronomy, Paul Bocuse.
This superb enameled cast iron pot NOMAR, conceived and designed by star chef Paul Bocuse, will appeal as much to gastronomy enthusiasts as to collectors of vintage culinary utensils.
Named “L’Auto-Mijoteur,” this pot bears witness to an era when the know-how of French foundries met the standards and creativity of the great chefs.
An ingenious design by Paul Bocuse, renowned French cuisine chef.
Developed around the principle of continuous basting, this pot was conceived to promote gentle cooking and preserve all the flavors of the food. Its cast-iron lid, with carefully studied concentric shapes, participates in condensing steam and returning it to the dishes. An ingenious process that helps keep meats tender and reveals the flavors of slow-cooked dishes.
Paul Bocuse’s name appears in relief on the lid, while his signature is also present on the natural wood knob inserted into the cast-iron handle. A double signature that gives this piece a true identity.
NOMAR, a French know-how in culinary cast iron
Founded in the Saint-Étienne region, the NOMAR foundry specialized in the manufacture of enameled cast-iron kitchenware. Its history sits within the tradition of French foundries that made cast iron a reference material for cooking. Integrated into the Staub group in 1988, the company notably produced pots and culinary pieces bearing the names of great chefs.
Cast iron stands out for its excellent thermal inertia: it absorbs heat, then releases it gradually, promoting steady cooking. Its robustness and longevity make it a particularly appreciated material for slow cooking and stews.
A sober and elegant aesthetic
This casserole features a stunning anthracite gray cast iron with a satin finish that is particularly appealing. Its rounded lines and concentric reliefs give it a functional yet timeless look.
The underside enamelled in a superb blue-green tone adds an original decorative touch, with an Art Deco inspiration that elegantly contrasts with the exterior cast iron’s sobriety.
Overall it is in exceptional condition, with a very handsome overall presentation. The wooden knob, handles, and markings are clearly present.
