Sanctuary lamp (2) - Sanctuary lamps. - Patinated brass or bronze.

These are a couple of antique sanctuary lamps (also called lampades), which originally hung in a Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox church.
Here are the main features of these objects.
Function: In the church, in such a hanging lamp, the 'eternal light' burns (usually an oil lamp or candle in a glass inner trough).
This takes place near the tabernacle to indicate that the Holy Host is present.
Design: They are made of patinated brass or bronze and hang from three elegant chains that converge at a ceiling rose.
The holders themselves feature openwork metalwork with floral or Neo-Gothic motifs, and at the bottom hangs a distinctive Christian cross.
Condition: For this particular set, the original glass inner troughs are missing (which were often red, blue, or yellow in color).
Today, such religious objects are frequently collected as decorative vintage pendant lamps or mood light holders for interiors, with a Waxinelicht (small candle) in it.
Dimensions: Total height about 43 cm with a 6 cm base diameter.
Total weight: 270 grams.
