Description from the seller

Fiat 1500 S Cabriolet OSCA (Pininfarina) - Red - Disassembled for restoration - Italian Documents

HISTORY AND PRESENTATION (An exceptional historical rescue)
Rare and fascinating example of a Fiat 1500 S Cabriolet, a style masterpiece signed by Pininfarina and equipped with the legendary twin-cam engine designed by OSCA of the Maserati brothers.

This car carries an extraordinary history: after 1962, due to the events of the time, it had been re-registered for reconstruction as a simple 1200 cabriolet on a chassis from the 1500 Cabriolet with a 1200 engine and gearbox. However, a great enthusiast and connoisseur of the make immediately recognized the true identity of the bodyshell (the rare OSCA "S" version with the distinctive asymmetrical air intake on the hood).

With meticulous research, he managed to locate and repurchase the correct OSCA twin-cam engine and the correct gearbox, saving this extremely rare piece of Italian automotive history. The owner began a passionate restoration in 2017, reinstalling the prestigious correct mechanicals on board.
Unfortunately, he passed away before completing the work.
The car has been stored indoors since 2018 and is presented today as a very important project for a complete restoration, with the phase of researching and recovering the engine and gearbox already completed successfully.

CURRENT STATE OF THE VEHICLE (Completely dismantled for restoration)
Bodywork and Monocoque
The car is red in color and is currently fully dismantled, awaiting a complete body restoration (sheet metal, preparation, and painting).
The monocoque is sound and represents a solid and excellent base for a top-level restoration.

OSCA Mechanical
The valuable OSCA twin-cam engine and its original mechanical gearbox have already been installed on the car in their mounts. During the first phase of the restoration (2017), the mechanics had been successfully restarted and the car was running (performance verified personally) before the definitive stop that occurred in 2018.

Components, Interiors, and upholstery:
The components of the car, the interior, and the upholstery are dismantled and included in the lot to be restored and reassembled, with many parts likely needing replacement.
The interior upholstery was historically re-covered in simulated leather (Vipla/Sky) of the era in the iconic red and black two-tone combination, a beautiful testimony to the taste of the time.

Double Mechanical Equipment Included
Together with the car, the engine and the 1.2-liter gearbox (previously mounted on the car) are also delivered. An additional set of highly valuable spare parts for collection purposes.

DOCUMENTATION AND HISTORICAL ACCOMPANIMENT
The car is being sold with clear paperwork and significant value for historical traceability:

Italian documents and registration plates
Several historic booklets and accompanying documents included in the lot, fundamental for documenting the vehicle's history.

Car viewable and collectible in Spello (Perugia)

Disclaimer

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
