Kolonialstatue from the Baule culture on the Ivory Coast, carved in wood, 27 cm high and 370 g, authentic original with provenance Galerie Wolfgang Jaenicke, Berlin, presented on a trapezoidal black display base and not sold with a stand.
Description from the seller
A Baule colonial statue from the Yamoussoukro region, Ivory Coast,
An authentic wooden figure in good condition. The painting shows wear and chipping that attest to long-term use. It is mounted on a trapezoid-shaped black display base.
Provenance: Galerie Wolfgang Jaenicke, Berlin with origin certificate.
This colonial figure has a characteristically styled hairstyle with an upright posture and western attire. The head and the visible parts of the body are painted in bright red lacquer. The facial features are voluminous with a broad, flat nose and a full mouth. Notable are the large hands, resting flat on the thighs.
It belongs to a special group of West African sculptures created during the colonial period and in the 20th century. They are not merely representations of colonial presence, but rather independent artistic interpretations of societal transformation processes.
A particularly significant object of the Baule culture that reflects the historical development of the colonial era.
No shipping to the USA and Russia.
