Description from the seller
A very nice, extensive collection of Official First Day Covers (FDC) from Czechoslovakia with commemorative postmarks. Several FDCs from the rare years 1949/51 (e.g. 2nd All-Union Congress of the ROH 11.12.1949; 30th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia 17.5.1951) and from years of strong normalization (e.g. 25th Anniversary of Victorious February 1948 and the People's Militia 23.2.1973; 10th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the ČSSR and the USSR and 25th anniversary of the Warsaw Pact 6.5.1980). Collection also includes 2 rare FDCs (Czech and Slovak graphics - "Woman with Viola" 25.1.1973; Czechoslovak Postage Stamp Day – "A. Mucha: Hradčany" 18.12.1978) signed by engraver Josef Herčík* and both acquired at auction.; also included is a rarer, unused Czechoslovak/international postal form—an Acknowledgement of Receipt/*Avis de réception*, no. 11-062)—from 1955. All with original stamps, some FDC with artistically modified special covers (POFIS Prague publishing house). A beautiful and well-preserved collection. Ideal for thematic collecting and exhibition purposes.
*Josef Herčík (1922-1999) - one of the most famous leading Czechoslovak engravers in the period after World War II, who designed and engraved more than 400 stamps for his work, received numerous national and international awards.
